Hubs and connectors are designed to be versatile within specific size and pressure ranges. For example, any 10-in, 10,000-psi CVC flowline connector can lock onto any 10-in, 10,000-psi CVC connector hub. The same applies to pressure caps, flooding caps, and debris caps.

Collet- and clamp-style connectors for vertical and horizontal systems include

  • CVC flowline connectors
  • CHC flowline connectors
  • CVC-Clamp flowline connectors
  • CHC-Clamp flowline connectors.

CVC and CHC connectors

The outboard connector houses all moving components of the connection. A connection is made between the inboard hub and the outboard connector when the actuator ring locks the collet segments around the mating hub bodies; the actuator ring is driven into place by hydraulic cylinders. Collet connectors are used for both integral and nonintegral connection systems.

  • Nonintegral: The hydraulic actuation system is part of an installation tool. After installation, the collet connector assembly remains subsea without any hydraulic components.
  • Integral: The hydraulic actuation system is a permanent part of the connector assembly and remains subsea.

CVC-Clamp and CHC-Clamp connectors

The clamp is the main locking device and typically consists of three segments that are closed around the mating hubs by a single rotating drive screw. Clamp connectors are nonintegral because the locking mechanism is actuated by a mechanical drive screw, which is a permanent part of the connector system. One of the primary advantages of clamp systems is that they are easily locked by an ROV using a torque tool, eliminating the need for larger tooling.
